Simmer and Jack landfill reopens after shooting incident

"The situation has since stabilised, with Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers deployed to monitor the facility and ensure the safety of officials and members of the public," said City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

The City of Ekurhuleni has announced the reopening of the Simmer and Jack landfill site following a temporary closure due to a shooting incident on the premises.

The facility resumed operations on Wednesday, April 22.

According to the city, the closure was prompted by a shooting incident involving illegal miners and waste reclaimers at the site.

“The situation has since stabilised, with EMPD officers deployed to monitor the facility and ensure the safety of officials and members of the public,” said city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“The city has apologises for any inconvenience caused during the closure,” said Dlamini.
