The EMPD Intervention Unit officers arrested two male suspects in the Primrose for possession of illegal mining equipment.
Following information received from a source regarding individuals allegedly in possession of illegal explosives and involved in illegal mining activities, officers proceeded to the Primrose informal settlement.

“Upon arrival, the suspects were located on the premises, and a search was conducted, which led to the discovery of two phendukas, two motors, one shovel, nine unknown metal objects (suspected to be used in cash-in-transit robberies), 15 powergel explosives and eight connector cap fuses,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.
“The suspects were arrested and detained at Primrose Police Station, facing charges of possession of illegal mining equipment and illegal immigration,” said Thepa.
They are expected to appear in court soon.
