One shot, killed and 4 zama-zamas arrested in Primrose today
Officers were confronted by a group of men who opened fire.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit officers arrested four suspects while conducting an illegal mining operation in Primrose on January 21.

The operation conducted at the Marathon informal settlement, in the early hours of the morning led to a shootout between members of law enforcement and illegal miners.
EMPD Intervention Unit Officers were conducting an illegal mining operation at 04:30 in the Primrose Germiston area at the Marathon informal settlement, East Rand.

“The officers were confronted by a group of men who opened fire, using a rifle and 9mm and revolver.
Another suspect who was in possession of a rifle fled the scene while four suspects were apprehended and one suspect was shot and killed,” Acting EMPD Chief Julius Mkwanazi.
“The scene is still active and firearms were seized,” said Mkwanazi.
