Illegal cannabis shop shut down in Elsburg: R20k worth of illicit products seized

EMPD Drug Unit busts unlicensed operation following Crime Intelligence tip-off.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Drug Enforcement Unit arrested a 46-year-old man for dealing in illicit cannabis products in the Elsburg area on May 13.

Following a tip-off from Crime Intelligence, EMPD officers conducted a sting operation at a shop on Mare Street.

Upon arrival, officers identified themselves and explained the purpose of their visit.

The arrest was made after EMPD received a tip-off.

 

The suspect was unable to produce any documentation permitting the cultivation, manufacture, or supply of cannabis.

A search of the premises led to the discovery and confiscation of:
• 10 labelled glass bottles containing cannabis (dagga)
• 115 pre-rolled cannabis joints
• 38 cannabis-infused edible sweets

Suspect faces charges related to dealing in illicit substances and infused products.

The total street value of the seized goods is estimated at R20 000.

The suspect was arrested and is currently being held at Elsburg Police Station.

He faces charges related to dealing in illicit substances and infused products.

He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court shortly.
