Learners protest at Sizwe Secondary after pupil’s arrest sparks chaos

Learning came to a standstill at Sizwe Secondary School in Elandsfontein when angry learners protested the arrest of a Grade 12 pupil. The demonstration turned violent, with police vehicles damaged and one learner injured.

Learning was disrupted by a protest by learners at Sizwe Secondary School in Elandsfontein on August 22.

According to Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Lillian Modiga, the learners are protesting following the arrest of a Grade 12 learner for intimidation.

“The situation escalated as a crowd of school learners attacked the police, resulting in damage to police cars

Fortunately, no SAPS members or Crime Prevention Warden members were injured during the incident. However, one learner was hurt,” said Modiga.

The learner protest in Elandsfontein left police cars vandalised.
