Suspect arrested in Elsburg for possession of stolen VW Polo

A 36-year-old man was arrested after Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officers intercepted a vehicle shortly after it was reported stolen in Crystal Park.

The EMPD arrested a man for being in possession of a stolen vehicle in Elsburg in the early hours of March 26.

According to EMPD’s community liaison unit, officers received information at about 04:00 about a white VW Polo reported stolen 15 minutes earlier in Crystal Park. The vehicle was believed to be travelling southbound along the R554.

Officers responded swiftly and located the vehicle on Kalk Road in Elsburg, where they brought it to a stop. One occupant was found inside.

Further checks revealed the vehicle’s ignition system had been tampered with, confirming it had been stolen.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and detained at Elsburg Police Station. He is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

EMPD has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
