Electoral Commission audits election results system ahead of local polls
The Electoral Commission has completed an independent external audit of its Election Results System, with ICT experts from four political parties reviewing its integrity, security and reliability.
As part of measures to promote transparency, credibility and confidence in the electoral process, the Electoral Commission has undertaken and concluded an independent external audit of its Election Results System.
The Results System is used to capture and collate election results and allocate seats to contestants, according to the Commission.
The Commission said it traditionally makes the system available to political parties and contestants to assess its integrity, functionality, security and reliability.

For the 2026 Local Government Elections, the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA) and uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP) designated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) experts to review the system.
The exercise began on October 5 and will conclude on October 12.
Interested parties had until September 30 to indicate their intention to participate and submit the names of their designated experts.
The Commission said the audit formed part of its commitment to ensuring that the 2026 Local Government Elections are administered in a credible, transparent and inclusive manner and in compliance with the law.
