Power outage hits multiple Ekurhuleni suburbs after Wadeville substation fire
The City of Ekurhuleni’s #FixingTheFrontline team is assessing damage at the Wadeville Substation following a fire, leaving several suburbs without electricity.
A fire at the Wadeville Substation on Saturday night has caused power outages across multiple Ekurhuleni suburbs, the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) confirmed.
City manager Kagiso Lerutla, accompanied by DH Innocent Mulaudzi, visited the site to provide updates on restoration efforts.
The #FixingTheFrontline team is currently carrying out assessments and cleaning work, with an estimated time for power restoration to be shared with residents and businesses once the cleaning phase is complete.
Suburbs affected include Wadeville, Albemarle, Castleview, Dinwiddie, Union, Phumula, Mapleton Ext 10, Buhle Park, Rondebult, Roodekop, Leondale, and surrounding areas.

The city urged residents to exercise caution while the restoration work is underway and to report electrical faults through official channels.
Officials said teams are working around the clock to restore electricity as quickly as possible and minimise disruptions for households and businesses.
The CoE reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of power infrastructure and ensuring that affected communities receive timely updates.
The city advised residents to stay informed via its official social media channels and to prepare for temporary disruptions while the repairs continue.
