The Weltevreden landfill site remains closed, with operations suspended until further notice, the City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed.

Residents and businesses are advised to use alternative landfill sites closest to their collection areas to dispose of waste responsibly.

Operational landfill sites in the region include:

* Rooikraal landfill site in Boksburg
* Platkop landfill site near Katlehong
* Simmer and Jack landfill site in Germiston
* Reitfontein landfill site in KwaThema

The City has urged residents to plan accordingly and continue using these alternative sites while the Weltevreden landfill site remains closed.
