Financial uncertainty looms over the metro as political divisions continue to stall approval of the city’s key spending framework.
The City of Ekurhuleni will reconvene tomorrow (June 18) in a fourth attempt to pass its 2026/27 budget, following repeated failures to secure council approval.

The metro has now failed three times to adopt the budget, raising concerns over governance and financial stability as parties remain sharply divided.
Gauteng MEC for Finance Nkululeko Dunga has warned of the implications if the stalemate continues, urging cooperation among political parties.

Reports indicate that the EFF, DA, ActionSA and the FF Plus have not supported the proposed budget in previous council sittings, contributing to the ongoing deadlock.
The budget impasse has placed additional pressure on the municipality as it attempts to finalise its financial framework for the upcoming financial year.
