Rand Airport crash: 5 killed when SAPS fixed wing aircraft crashes

The pilot was critically injured.

The SAPS confirmed that one of its fixed wing aircrafts crashed at the Rand Airport in Germiston at 14:30 this afternoon.

“On board were five passengers and a pilot,” said Colonel Athlenda Mathe.

“The five passengers lost their lives. The pilot was critically injured and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” said Mathe.

Authorities are on scene to establish the cause of the crash.

“The details of the deceased and injured pilot will be released once their next of kin have been informed,” said Mathe.
