Ward 45 Sanco branch brings services closer to people

“Even with issues of identity documents if you cannot go to Boksburg to register because of financial or other reasons, you will be able to get help because there will be a DoHA truck to assist people.”

The Ward 45 Sanco branch is inviting Kathorus residents to a service delivery day event at Extension 14, Nguza Street, Vosloorus on November 25.

The organization partnered with various stakeholders to disseminate information and bring services closer to people in the township, where community members can inquire and get first-hand information.

Stakeholders include Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, the Ekurhuleni Municipality, the Departments of social development, health, home affairs, SAPS, Sassa Vosloorus and Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EMS).

The NPOs present include Aged and Disability, POWA, Eluthandweni, Sanca, as well as businesses like Benoni VW, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Clientele Life and Old Mutual.

Sanco Ward 45 assistant organiser, Thabo Moreroa, said they are bringing different stakeholders to help residents with their challenges.

He said they have identified that since the Covid-19 pandemic most people cannot take taxis to visit the SASSA offices or home affairs. Others do not know where to report abuse or check on their insurance.

“Various stakeholders will attend with their gazebos where people will easily identify who they need. For a man or woman who survived abuse and needs support to recover, many organisations deal with GBV around Vosloorus. People are not aware of them,” said Moreroa.

“Even with issues of identity documents if you cannot go to Boksburg to register because of financial or other reasons, you will be able to get help because there will be a DoHA truck to assist people.”

This was the basic education online registration where they assisted parents to register children at schools for placement in the 2023 academic calendar, and a drug and substance abuse awareness campaign at Villa Lisa Secondary School on July 23.

“We also managed to stabilise violence at Villa Lisa Secondary School where two groups of learners violently attacked each other.”

Moreroa said this is a pilot project however, they want to see it grow and rotate in different wards every three months.
