School for deaf get helping hands
Various stakeholders joined hands to give back to the Ekurhuleni School for the Deaf.
The Umuntu Naye Organization and Eco Hope Management, in partnership with Boksburg Correctional Services and the City of Ekurhuleni, spent Mandela Day at the Ekurhuleni School for the Deaf.
Determined members of the community and parolees laboured at Mofokeng Section, Katlehong.
As part of pledging 67 minutes and more for Mandela Day, some activities included cleaning classrooms, hostels and transport buses, working in the food garden and planting shade trees.
Mandela Day is an annual global day commemorating Nelson Mandela, observed on his birthday, July 18. The United Nations officially declared the day in November 2009, with the first Mandela Day held on July 18, 2010.
This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to reflect on Mandela’s values and positively impact their communities.
