EasyPay helps Sqalo Sempilo Day Care
At least 81 children from the informal settlement benefited from EasyPay’s co-operatives incentive scheme.
Easy Pay recently visited Sqalo Sempilo Day Care (SSDC) to hand over much-needed donations at Ext 9, Palm Ridge, Katlehong.
The donations included essential food items like maize meal, KOO baked beans, tinned fish, mince, samp, hygiene products, torches and a wheelchair.
The principal of SSDC, Prudence Dhlamini, said they had anticipated EasyPay’s visit because they engaged several times telephonically, but at some point, she lost hope.
“When you are in need, you are desperate. We were in great need of the groceries. We have at least 81 children who benefited. Most came from poverty-stricken families living in informal settlements,” said Dhlamini.

“We identified a senior citizen, Jane Khanye (85), from the community to give the wheelchair to. As the saying goes, when you are blessed, you have to bless others.”
Khanye thanked EasyPay and SSDC for considering her because she struggled to move around, and the wheelchair would add value to her life.
Dhlamini invited interested companies to sponsor them. She explained that SSDC is a low-fee daycare because most parents could not afford to pay over R300.
“As a daycare, we started an NPO called Sqalo Foundation. We keep knocking at local businesses and foreign tuck shops for donations. When they usually donate maize meal and vegetables, we cook for the children, but we would like to cook for them twice a week.

“We do not want monetary donations. We want food because we want to start a soup kitchen. We realised that when children come back from school, they do not have anything to eat at home. We want them to pass by and take takeaways before they go home.”
She said they also collected sanitary pads and pre-loved clothes.
