Clr Geoffrey Mthembu shares his plans for 2024
Even though there is a lot of unemployment in his district, he agreed that local initiatives may help when they are available.
As 2024 kicks off, Ward 93 Clr Geoffrey Mthembu shared his plans for this year.
Among other highlights, Mthembu praised the re-blocking of Central Hostel and the electrification of Tokyo Sexwale informal settlement last year.
He intends to see these initiatives through to completion in 2024.

Even though 2023 was not without its challenges, he said the people in his ward have persevered.
“We wish the matrics the very best of luck in life since they will soon receive their results.
“Some will gradually enter the workforce, while others will pursue further study. We pray away negative thoughts for individuals who did not meet the required levels.”
Mthembu urged residents to work together to accomplish better things in the year.
“We are plagued by problems related to illegal power across the ward. Businesses in the Knights Industrial Area are concerned about illegal connections,” said Mthembu.
“Stakeholders must be involved to address these problems. EMPD disconnections are still happening.
“Another ongoing success is the re-blocking of the Central Hostel, where a second group of residents will be moved to The Leeuwpoort Mega Project.

“The plans show that the hostel needs to be demolished to accommodate the extension of The Leeuwpoort Mega Project to that space. The project accommodates five wards.
“Good Hope informal settlement committee and the Department of Human Settlements have met to discuss land matters, though the discussions are still ongoing.
“Marathon and Delport informal settlements are also built on private land and stakeholders are engaging.”
Mthembu said the biggest mission of the year is to get all five items on the IDP approved.
He also invited residents of Germiston Ext 9 to a public meeting on January 13 to discuss problems facing them.
Even though there is a lot of unemployment in his district, he agreed that local initiatives may help.

“One of the first community projects I will be involved in is the back-to-school campaign, where we will be donating school shoes to three schools in the Germiston area and Rieger Park,” he said.
Mthembu’s IDP include the following:
• Housing and infrastructure development for Goodhope, Marathon, Delport, Tokyo Sexwale and Ext 9.
• Upgrading of electricity supply and transformers in Ext 9 (Germiston South).
• Electrification of informal settlements, Delport, Marathon, Goodhope and Tokyo Sexwale.
• Request for a community hall in Germiston Ext 9.
