Local author spreads positivity through her book
The book follows a character named Siya who goes on a journey of learning and then teaches other girls, to be positive.
Ekurhuleni resident Nthabeleng Sekhokoane has written her second book and it addresses children’s issues.
Her second book, titled Siya’s First Period, focuses on teaching young girls about being period-positive.
“Girls who already know about periods worry about when it starts and how it will change their lives.

“They also worry about being active – all these elements can lead young girls to have negative feelings. Through this book, I’m addressing that,” said Nthabeleng.
The book follows a character named Siya who goes on a journey of learning and then teaches other girls to be positive.
Nthabeleng said this book was important for her to write.
“My friends have girls from the age of 10 and older and they would share how nervous and frightened they were of the unknown.

“Siya helps girls realise they are not alone. The book also aids single dads or grandparents who are raising young girls,” said Nthabeleng.
She plans to take the book to schools.
“I would love for the book to be accessible to every girl child.
“Some girls don’t have the luxury of parents who can be open about such topics. This is a great way for teachers to introduce the topic,” said Nthabeleng.
