The Ekurhuleni council is set to convene an extraordinary council meeting today to elect a new mayor, following a postponement by Speaker Council Nthabiseng Tshivhenga from the previously scheduled date last week.

The political landscape of Ekurhuleni has become increasingly uncertain as parties struggle to reach consensus on a candidate to fill the vacant mayoral position.

This turmoil follows the removal of former Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana from the African Independent Congress (AIC) through a motion of no confidence two weeks ago, leaving the city without leadership.
