An articulated truck jack-knifed at the Elands Interchange, leaving its driver with minor injuries and prompting an emergency response.
Firefighters battled a vehicle fire after an articulated truck jack-knifed and crashed at the Elands Interchange in Germiston.
The incident happened at the N3 South and N12 West split on October 1, triggering major freeway closures and emergency response operations.
Firefighters from both the Alberton and Germiston fire stations, under Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), were alerted to the incident at around 12:55 and swiftly responded to the scene.

DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said that upon conducting a risk and scene assessment, emergency crews temporarily shut down all three westbound lanes on the N12 freeway.
On the N3 southbound, three of the four lanes were closed to traffic to allow fire-ground operations and rescue efforts to proceed safely.
“The adult male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, managed to escape the burning wreckage with minor burn and trauma injuries. He was treated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to a nearby medical facility in Alberton for further care,” Ntladi said.
Fire-ground operations and scene rehabilitation remain ongoing.
Authorities anticipate that lane closures on both freeways will persist until late this afternoon, and motorists are advised to expect heavy delays and seek alternative routes where possible.
