Assumption Convent School to host Space Camp between June 12 and 14
“Carpenter and Phillips will lead some of our new stations and share their knowledge and experiences with learners.”

Assumption Convent School will host its annual Space Camp to inspire and educate young girls in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The camp will run between June 12 and 14 with a programme promoting learner’s interests.
The school’s marketing manager, Marinella Sousa, said the school had expanded its camp to include more interactive and engaging activities this year.

“In addition to our popular heat shield construction and rocket launching sessions, we’re introducing a diving element where participants will simulate the conditions in space and work collaboratively to ‘repair’ a piece of equipment underwater, mimicking an astronaut’s experience in a zero-gravity environment.”
She said the school is also thrilled to announce that Jackie Carpenter and Dianea Philips, aerospace educators from Australia and Canada, respectively, would join the camp.
“Carpenter and Phillips will lead some of our new stations and share their knowledge and experiences with learners.”
Besides being an event for learners, this year the camp is open to teachers, too.

“The aim is to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge to bring space-themed STEM experiences back to their schools,” said Sousa.
By reaching teachers, Assumption Convent hopes to expand the programme’s impact.
Sousa said the overall aim is to inspire even more learners to pursue careers in science and technology.
