The bus is privately owned and operates in Boksburg and Primrose informal settlements.

A scholar transport vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the first day of school on January 15 in Germiston.

Scores of learners escaped without injuries as the bus they were travelling in was involved in a collision involving seven light motor vehicles.

The accident took place at the intersection of Black-Reef Road and Kasteel Street, Dinwiddie.

Swift intervention from the Wadeville Fire Station rescue team helped to calm scores of terrified scholars. None of the scholars and occupants of other vehicles sustained injuries.

“The bus driver said the airbrake system of the bus failed before crashing into the other vehicles.

“The number of scholars in transit was unknown and another bus from the same company arrived on the scene to transport the scholars to school,” said Emergency Services Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi.

“The bus is privately owned and operates from Ramaphosa and Delmore informal settlements in Boksburg, Dukathole and Makause informal settlement in Primrose destined to Katlehong High School in Katlehong.

“The intersection had to be temporarily closed as officials conducted investigations. City of Ekurhuleni traffic officers took over the scene from the rescue team leading the accident investigations.

“The city warns motorists to be cautious,” said Ntladi.
