Primrose resident grapples with sewage blockage

The problem started a few years ago but it was resolved until last year when it started to block/occur frequently.

The festive season was not all merry for Primrose resident Wendy Porter as she suffered weeks of sewage constantly running through her driveway.

The problem started a few years ago but it was resolved until last year when it started to block/occur frequently.

She recalls the sewage blocking up at least four times since last February.

She said the manhole situated in her neighbour’s yard keeps blocking up when waste runs through her driveway.

“Each time I log a call, the council workers come out and unblock the sewerage drain and then it happens all over again and again.

“This main drain sits just behind my house on another person’s property who runs his business.

“Previously, when the council workers came out, they found a brick in the manhole which caused the blockage.

“I then have to clean up the entire road off the poop, tampons, sanitary towels, newspaper, T-shirts, panties, toilet paper, nappies and more each time this happens, not to mention the stink. This is such a health risk to me and my family and my tenant, who is 80 years old.

“The drain was blocked on December 23 and again on January 1. I am pleading, literally with tears in my eyes, for the council workers to sort this problem out properly.

“I have asked our ward councillor Wendy Morgan to help. She escalates the problem, based on my reference numbers, but more than that, she can’t do much.

“I don’t know what to do anymore. Council workers recently came through and left without fixing it. We showed them where the mainhole is but they never went to it,” said Porter.

The GCN sent a request for comment to the City of Ekurhuleni requesting comment by January 10 at 12:00. By the time of going to print no comment was received.
