Katlehong SAPS celebrate Easter

Katlehong police, local stakeholders, and faith-based groups gather for a candlelight service at Free National Ethiopian Church to seek divine protection for law enforcement.

Katlehong’s Social Crime Prevention co-ordinator, Sergeant Nomathamsanqa Nkonkoane, joined local safety stakeholders, including SAPS members from Katlehong and neighbouring stations, the Department of Community Safety, brigades, the Youth Desk, the CPF, the community in blue, local patrollers, faith-based organisations and NPOs when they gathered at the Free National Ethiopian Church in Moleleki Ext 3 to commemorate the Easter Passover.

The commemorations started with a candlelight prayer service to seek protection for all law enforcement agencies working during the Easter holidays. Church leaders displayed their denominations’ attire together and, joined by their congregants, prayed and sang emotional songs that sought divine intervention during this period.

Sergeant Mabu Kgatla took the stage to share the first word of seven Jesus shared before his crucifixion. Sergeant Maxwell Mabunda of the Germiston SAPS co-ordinated the programme as MC, while Nkonkoane gave the day’s purpose before closing.

Pearl Manqele, the Ekurhuleni district CPF secretary, gave a vote of thanks and appreciated the church where the service was held for opening its doors for the prayer service.
