Grade 4 learners enjoy an outing at the Melville Koppies

Learners from Jan Cilliers School enjoy the wide open spaces

As soon as Grade 4 learners from the Jan Celliers School stepped onto Melville Koppies soil, and we started to tell them stories, their inquisitive minds bombarded us with questions like: What animal belongs to that skeleton? Why is there a cage around the furnace? Or, Can I climb inside the cage?

They then climbed up the steep ridge and shrieked with excitement as they ascended to the top.

Their energy did not waver as they went to the river and back up to the entrance.

See for yourself what your children experienced. Melville Koppies is open on Sunday mornings from 08.00 to 11.30. Self-guide on a hike from 500m to 5km.

Don’t forget our monthly activities, which include storytelling on the second Sunday of the month, which started on April 13. This includes an 8km guided hike on the last Sunday of the month on the 27 April.

Closer home in Kathorus the Suikerbosch Rand resort is a preferred hiking and picnic spot for locals and is a regular venue visited by the public of all ages.
