TLFA aims to uplift local football in Thokoza

Thokoza Local Football Association (TLFA) has announced its dedication to producing quality players in the local soccer industry.

These sentiments were shared by TLFA chairperson Sifiso Chonco during an interview with Kathorus Mail at the association’s AGM, held at Transnet Hall in Thokoza on May 1.

Chonco explained that the body’s priority is to revive the community’s passion and love for soccer in Thokoza and the greater Ekurhuleni area.

“Since we were elected as the new management in March last year, we have been working tirelesslyto ensure that we uphold the values and vision to upgrade the Phakwe Group Leagues as part of the TLFA.

“As the new management, we have made significant strides and successfully organised several tournaments as well as hosting the now well-oiled Phakwe Group league matches, including an Easter tournament,” said Chonco.

He added that the new body has also introduced the Phakwe Group women’s league.

“There’s been great progress in the women’s league since its introduction in January this year, with kickoff on March 8. Our men’s leagues from the juniors right up to the senior level have extensively improved. This is thanks to the sponsorship from the Phakwe Group which started sponsoring TLF in October last year and the help from the local community.”

Choncho mentioned that TLF has also made immense improvements in maintaining local sports facilities under its administration.

“We have ensured our teams enjoy the best facilities for training and playing soccer matches. Our finances remain sound, as we have diversified our revenue streams and implemented strategic sponsorship agreements to secure funding for seasonal and off seasonal activities.

“We have also introduced workshops for our match officials and coaches, including players so that they can understand the sport better,” he explained.

Deputy chairperson Brian Mfeka urged teams to comply with the rules and regulations of the association.

“Teams, match officials and players need to ensure they don’t find themselves fined for misconduct during matches.

“Another issue we have are teams not pitching up for matches and the issue of walk-overs. As an association, we need teams that are committed and understand why they are participating in the current league. We demand the utmost professionalism,” Mfeka explained.

Pule Mogoro, financial officer at TLFA, said they have saved sufficient funds compared to the previous seasons.

“We have used our finances for essential services such as paying match officials, maintenance of our facilities, and we also have sufficient soccer balls to be used during our matches.

“Members who want to know how the funds were used and saved may check our financial report. Every member is welcome to peruse our books for transparency,” said Mogoro.

Emihle Mdeliswa, the media officer of TLFA, mentioned that the association has advertised all its activities using various media platforms and through a local radio station.

“Our social media pages are active. Although we don’t have many followers, we still manage to share important information with the community.”
