EMPD arrests five for counterfeit goods and immigration offences
EMPD and BIPPS shut down two Edenvale shops on July 7, arresting five suspects for allegedly selling counterfeit goods and violating immigration laws.
The EMPD Northern Region Task Team, in collaboration with Brand and Intellectual Property Protection Services (BIPPS), arrested five suspects in Edenvale on July 7, for allegedly selling counterfeit products and violating immigration laws.
The officers responded to a tip-off around 11:00 about two shops on Van Riebeeck Avenue reportedly selling counterfeit items, such as branded toothpaste and glue.

Upon arrival, EMPD officers found several individuals on the premises who were unable to produce identification documents
A search led to the discovery of various counterfeit goods.
The officers handed over the confiscated items to BIPPS, which issued a receipt to the shop owner. These goods will be destroyed in line with intellectual property protection procedures.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 25, were arrested and detained at Edenvale Police Station.
According to EMPD, charges include selling counterfeit goods and failing to comply with the Immigration Act.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
