Video: Mobile Home Affairs service steps in after protest and blaze in CBD
A mobile Home Affairs bus is serving clients after the CBD office caught fire during protest chaos linked to mass evictions.
It is a chaotic morning in the heart of Ekurhuleni’s Germiston CBD, with two major events that officials suspect are linked.
In the early hours, protesters began burning tyres and debris. At about 07:00, the Germiston Home Affairs building caught fire.

Firefighters battled the blaze, and no injuries or deaths were reported.
The unrest followed a protest by residents of Ekurhuleni housing units against a Johannesburg High Court-ordered eviction.
They were later evicted by Germiston South Deputy Sheriff Ijan Kruger. Residents are now displaced, with protesters dispersed by rubber bullets.
