WATCH: Deputy minister pledges justice after Germiston Home Affairs fire

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza has vowed swift justice for those behind the Germiston Home Affairs fire and announced mobile stations and alternative offices to ensure uninterrupted services for residents.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza has pledged that the state will pursue those responsible for the recent attack on the Germiston Home Affairs offices with the full might of the law.

Nzuza visited the fire-damaged building this week, walking through the charred remains to assess the extent of the destruction and meet with officials on the ground.

Burnt-out interiors reveal the extent of the destruction caused by the blaze.

Preliminary reports indicate that the blaze, which engulfed the offices on August 12, was deliberately started, causing severe disruption to services.

“We will ensure that the criminals behind this incident are brought to book,” Nzuza said.

To maintain service delivery, Nzuza announced the deployment of mobile Home Affairs stations at the Germiston Civic Centre parking lot.

Fire damage leaves critical public service offices in ruins.

These units will assist residents with smart ID and passport applications, among other essential services.

In addition to the mobile units, members of the public can also visit the Alberton, Kempton Park, and Edenvale Home Affairs offices for assistance.
