ER24 urges public to stop filming accident and crime scenes
Johannesburg emergency responders warn that recording or streaming victims can interfere with rescue operations and traumatise families.
ER24 Johannesburg South is calling on the public to stop recording live videos, taking photographs, or streaming from accident and crime scenes on social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook Live.
In recent weeks, emergency workers have seen more people filming disturbing and sensitive scenes while paramedics and rescue teams are trying to save lives.
“We urge the community to show compassion and respect at accident scenes,” said the branch manager of ER24 Johannesburg South, Faheem Essop.
“Emergency scenes are highly sensitive areas. Taking videos or pictures can get in the way of emergency workers, delay rescue efforts, and may violate privacy and legal rules.
“We understand that people may be curious or want to share what’s happening,” Essop added.
“Please remember that behind every scene is a person, a family, and a story of loss or pain. We ask for empathy and not exposure.”
ER24 Johannesburg South thanked the community for their continued support and cooperation, urging everyone to act responsibly when they come across an accident or emergency scene.
