EMPD warns parents about sharing school photos online

As the 2026 school year begins, the EMPD has urged parents to avoid posting images that reveal school uniforms or locations, citing growing concerns around child safety and online predators.

As learners gear up for the 2026 academic year, it’s time to return refreshed, energised, and ready to excel.

The EMPD wishes all teachers, parents, and learners a successful and rewarding school year ahead.

While many parents will joyfully capture and share photos of their children’s first day back at school, we urge caution when posting images that display school logos, uniforms, or locations online.

These details can pose serious safety risks and expose children to online predators.

“Child trafficking continues to be a growing concern in South Africa, with social media being a key tool used by traffickers to lure children.

“Parents and guardians are encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor children’s online activity and work closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of all learners. Let’s make safety a priority this school year.

“Together, we can protect and empower our children,” said EMPD spokesperson, Katlego Mphahlele.
