EMPD enforces scholar transport compliance
The EMPD operation aims to ensure learner safety when being transported.
Six unroadworthy scholar transport buses were impounded during a learner transport enforcement operation across Ekurhuleni on January 23.
According to the EMPD, the operation between 06:00 and 09:00 was carried out by the Social Crime Prevention Unit, Katlehong and Germiston precinct officers and Gauteng Traffic Police.
It reached multiple areas, including Spruitview and Klippoortjie, targeting scholar transport compliance.
In Spruitview, officers did inspections on the corner of Siluma Drive and Brickfield Road, finding six unroadworthy buses, which were discontinued and impounded.

A driver was arrested after being found driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting learners in a Toyota Avanza. The Gauteng Traffic Police made the arrest and took him to the nearest police station.
Officers issued 61 written notices to offenders during the Spruitview operation.
In Klippoortjie, on the corner of the R554 and Osborne Road, officers issued 35 notices to professional drivers transporting learners.
All impounded buses were taken to the Benoni Vehicle Pound for further inspection.
The arrested driver will appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court.
Learner transport enforcement operations will continue across Ekurhuleni
to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and enforce compliance.
