Primrose residents honour Ward 36 and 92 councillors in community celebration
The gathering brought together residents and businesses to acknowledge the work done on the ground and to reaffirm the bond between elected representatives and the people they serve.
Ward 36 and 92 residents gathered in a spirit of unity on January 31, at Sunnyridge Sport Grounds in Primrose, to honour their ward councillors, Wendy Morgana, and Kade Guerreiro, in a heartfelt community celebration of gratitude and shared purpose.
The gathering brought together residents and businesses to acknowledge the work done on the ground and to reaffirm the bond between elected representatives and the people they serve.
The event was not marked by grandeur, but by sincerity and fun for the whole community.

Residents shared how they have witnessed the councillors working to change things in the ward, from improved communication between residents and council to visible efforts to address service delivery challenges. For many, the celebration was less about politics and more about appreciation for accessibility, listening, and consistency.
Residents described the councillors as “present” and “approachable”, noting that regular engagement and a willingness to hear community concerns have helped rebuild trust.

In response, Wendy and Kade expressed deep humility and gratitude, emphasising that leadership is a collective effort rather than an individual achievement.
They acknowledged that the recognition belongs not only to elected officials, but also to community members who actively participate in meetings, raise concerns responsibly, and work together to find solutions.
“We are truly humbled by this gesture; it reminds us why we accepted this responsibility in the first place, to serve the people with honesty, respect and accountability. This kind of appreciation motivates us to work even harder,” said the councillors.
Michéle Clarke, member of the national assembly, who also attended in support of the councillors, echoed these sentiments, describing the celebration as a reminder of the values of public service.

“Momnts like these help restore dignity to local governance and encourage representatives to remain grounded in the realities faced by residents. It also gives them courage to soldier on. I’m proud of Wendy and Kade for being able to serve the community with heart,” said Clarke.
The gathering also served as a space for reflection, with councillors acknowledging that challenges remain and that not all issues can be resolved immediately. However, they committed to continued engagement, transparency and collaboration with the community.
One of the organisers, Deon Munga, said this was about appreciating how the ward councillors have served the community and about residents sharing a common cause: expressing gratitude.

The sponsors who made the day possible were Invincible Valves, Better Primrose, Vdub Tech, Mamba, BeauBella Beauty, Marlands Dog Park, and Treasure Trove.
“A big thank you to every single business that made the celebration possible. Truly the day was special and thank you to residents who showed to express their appreciation,” said Munga.

In a time when residents have little faith in the city, the celebration stood as a powerful example of what is possible when communities and their councillors work together, with mutual respect, humility, and a shared vision for a better ward.
