Among the confiscated items were vaping devices, sharp scissors, matches, and lighters.

Primrose SAPS social crime prevention coordinator, Warrant Officer Styles Maome, said the campaign has already yielded significant results.

“On February 11, we searched over 400 learners at one of the local high schools,” said Maome.

“Police officers removed several prohibited items from the school grounds. We urge parents to work with all stakeholders and ensure they do not purchase items for their children that are not permitted at school.”

Maome also called on parents to reinforce school codes of conduct, including compliance with uniform policies, punctual arrival times, and safe transport arrangements.

“Learners must remain vigilant when walking to and from school. Criminals often target Grade Eight learners as they believe these learners carry expensive smartphones,” he said.

Maome encouraged learners, if possible, to leave their cellphones at home to reduce the risk of theft and related incidents.
