Protest action brings traffic to a standstill on N3 near Leondale

Traffic on the N3 northbound near Leondale was brought to a standstill on Wednesday, May 6 after protesters blocked the highway with burning tyres and barricades, causing major disruption for morning motorists.

According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the protest resulted in severe congestion, with vehicles backed up for kilometres as authorities moved in to contain the situation.
EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members, supported by the police, were deployed to the scene to monitor developments and restore order along the busy route.
Motorists were urged to avoid the affected stretch of the highway and to use alternative routes while traffic officials worked to ease congestion and clear the roadway.
