Greater Germiston Taxi Association donates school shoes to 70 learners
Mcathule said they have more than 1 000 children in their system who require various forms of assistance, highlighting the ongoing need for community support.
The Greater Germiston Taxi Association (GGTA), together with the Child Welfare Germiston, recently handed over school shoes to 70 deserving learners.
The learners from across Germiston schools were invited to the Child Welfare premises, where they received the shoes.
Following selection processes, the two organisations said they were inspired by the need for school shoes among their beneficiaries.

The Greater Germiston Taxi Association (GGTA) expressed a willingness to purchase and donate school shoes to these children.
As an NPO that depends on sponsorships and donations to support the children and families they serve, Child Welfare Germiston partnered with the transport association.
Mosima Ethel Mcathule, operations director of Child Welfare Germiston, explained that GGTA is located next to their offices, making it easy to establish a relationship with them.
“I approached them and introduced myself as the new director. Following this engagement, GGTA agreed to support our initiative.
“A total of 70 children benefited from the school shoe donation. All our social workers reviewed their respective caseloads and identified children who were in need of school shoes,” said Mcathule.

“The beneficiaries were selected from children already receiving services through our office. Therefore, there was no need to approach schools, as all the identified children were already part of our caseload, although they attend different schools.
“Through our assessments, we have found that many school-going children are in need of school uniforms, food parcels, stationery, underwear, toiletries and sanitary pads. There is a need to continue assistance with other joint partners.
“Our message to the community is that many children continue to face significant material needs. We appeal to individuals, businesses and corporate organisations to support these children in any way they can, as every contribution makes a meaningful difference.”

“The parents were extremely grateful and happy with the donation. Some parents attended the handover event, and GGTA also provided soup, bread and oranges to the children in attendance and their caregivers,” said Mcathule.
