Gerrida Oxlee: “Have a relationship with Jesus because He is the most important person in your entire life. Don’t fight the wrong - show by the way you live what is right.”
The Month of the Elderly is celebrated in October.
The GCN asked elderly members of the city what advice they would give to young people.
Here are their replies:
Lettie Heilbronn: “Always keep active and busy. Don’t just sit in front of the television all the time. Take part in activities, especially outdoor activities like gardening and try to play games.”
Anne Maltez: “The youth must have good manners and respect their parents, teachers and the elderly. Remember that drugs are a big no, if you really want to succeed in life.”
Elaine Jamieson: “Be wise and save money when you are working. Don’t be foolish and spend all your money. Save for your old age because you will need it in future.”
Sannah Moagi: “Educate yourself because education is very important. Start your own businesses and be independent. Don’t depend on someone else. Love God, the foundation of all things.”
Marie Maritz: “Stay young at heart and keep telling your mind that you are young because if you keep telling yourself that you are old, then you will get old very quickly.”
