Nunu Baloyi: "Counseling is important and it is not only for married people. Young people are encouraged to step up and talk about their problems because they find it difficult to talk to parents.”

Bertha Gxowa Hospital (BGH) Care Centre was at the Golden Walk Shopping Centre for The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign to challenge violence against women and children. They visited the centre on December 1.

Community members were asked whether they think counselling can assist in addressing GBV in a relationship.

Pretty Molefe: “Yes because counselling will help people to stop blaming each other and talk about how they can resolve issues without fighting. It will encourage couples to communicate better with each other.”

Rodrick Manganye: “It is important. It strengthens your relationship and opens a window to talk about things you are not able to talk about. Couples should seek opportunities to get free counselling.”

Thabiso Khumalo: “I just recently realised the benefit of speaking about problems. Counselling will help couples address each other with the right words and tone. People use anger and do not communicate well.”

Carol Moyo: “Couples counselling is important. It will help them communicate better and have a more open relationship.”
