Before his fight on Thursday, Primrose boxer Jarred Silverman promised that he would not let the result be decided by the judges.
He kept his word, knocking out Emmanuel Mokoro in the second round of their welterweight clash, at Presley’s, in Boksburg.
Silverman, who is also known as “Mr Hollywood”, dropped Mokoro twice in the first round.
He scored another knockdown in the second, before dropping his opponent for the last time.
This time Mokoro could not answer the referee’s count.
Silverman has now bounced back to winning ways after controversially losing his previous fight.
“The preparation for the fight was great,” he said.
He has reunited with trainer Nic Durandt, with who he started his professional career.
“Being with Nic is better for me,” he said.
“Going back was the best decision I ever made.”
The local fighter said he wanted to be with Durandt for the rest of his career.
For now he is looking to fight an opponent who is amongst the top 10 in South Africa.
A win against a top 10 fighter would get him into the rankings and in line to challenge for the national title.
“I want to be SA champ before the middle of next year,” he said.
Silverman knows a thing or two about being a champion.
He was a national champion during his amateur days and has now dedicated his life to boxing.
When he is not training, he works as a personal trainer in Durandt’s gym.
He clearly enjoys working with the trainer who has produced numerous national and world champions.
“I have the best sparring in the country,” he said.
“I spar with guys like Patrick Malinga and V12 (Simphiwe Vetyeka). I have 10 different sparring partners.”
Silverman thanked those around him.
“I would like to thank Nic Durandt and my sponsors, Mark and Neil Mettlekamp, from Ideal Bathrooms,” said the young fighter.
