Germiston Callies’ athletes on the rise

Local athletes start the year right.

Germiston Callies’ athletes have, for the past three weeks, been taking part in the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) meetings, and have done really well.

“We are looking forward to a great season this year and already most of my athletes have started on a good and high note,” said Callies’ head coach, Stephané Kotzé.

The CGA’s have been successfully held at the Germiston Stadium for the past three consecutive Saturdays.

During the track and field meeting that was held on Saturday, Callies athletes performed as follows:

  • Danie van Blerk won the 100m senior men’s sprint in a time of 10.3 secs, and also came first in the 200m sprint in a time of 20.8 secs.
  • Kayla Gilbert came first in the women’s 100m sprint in a time of 11.7 secs, and placed first in the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.4 secs.
  • Megan Phillips won the u-17 100m sprint race in a time of 12.4 secs.
  • Jade Thiele was a couple of seconds behind Gilbert and came third in the 100m sprint.
  • Mpho Tladi won the boys u-17 110m hurdles in a time of 14.17 secs, and made the club proud once more when he came out first in the 100m sprint in a time of 10.74 secs.
  • Julia Lutz won the u-15 200m sprint in a time of 25.48 secs.

The club had eight first places in the CGA’s first meeting, on January 11.

  • Kayla Gilbert won the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.5 seconds.
  • Danie van Blerk won the 100m senior men’s sprint and the 200m sprint in a time of 20.9 secs.
  • Pedro Aaron won the u-15 long jump, 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.
  • Shane Lottering was first in the u-13 80m and the 200m hurdles, and second in the 100m hurdles.
