The Germiston City Football Club is proud to announce that an agreement has been reached with Braga Football Club’s (Portugal) representatives in South Africa, for them to work together, to develop football in the area.
The clubs have agreed to carry the name of Germiston City-Braga in the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) leagues, from u-11 to u-17.
The idea is to promote football and teach children to strive to become professionals from a young age.
At the same time Braga will bring coaches from Portugal to introduce the latest training techniques from Europe.
“The goal is to ultimately have our local players knocking on the doors of professional clubs both nationally and internationally,” said the Germiston City Football Club’s media liaison, Peter Oliver.
“This could only enhance the grass roots development being called for by the South African Football Association (SAFA).”
“The club have had great success in the past, seeing a number of our players playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and others playing overseas,” said chairman of the Germiston City Football Club Gerald Habib.
“With the right coaching we are positive that more children can work towards being professional footballers, rather than it just being a dream.”
All players and coaches are welcome to come and join the united clubs.
In other news, the club’s senior sides are in full stride at pre-season training, with training sessions running every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6pm to 8pm.
The seniors also have a number of friendly games lined up against local opposition.
“We have very talented players and we are looking forward to a good season this year in the ELFA Super League,” said one of the club’s coaches, Sreten Pavlic.
“We are always on the hunt for new players, because there is always room for improvement; players are still welcome to try for a place, one never knows what may turn up.”
