Nail-biting matches for Germiston City FC.

The Germiston City FC Super League One side put up a grand performance against Sporting, in a league match played at Chris Park, in Turffontein, on Saturday.

The young Germiston side scored first in the eighth minute, with a well taken goal by Lebohang Chokoe, with Germiston playing good football in the opening 15 minutes.

In heavy rain the referee decided to play on, making the conditions on the field difficult for both sides.

A mix-up in the Germiston defence allowed Sporting to equalise and with conditions worsening Sporting were able to capitalise on another mistake in the Germiston defence ten minutes before half-time.

Germiston going into half time 1-2 down were given a stern talking to by coach Len van Rooyen.

This did not seem to help matters, with midfielder Godfrey Chando being sent off for shirt tugging and a second bookable offence within five minutes of the re-start.

Sporting threw everything at Germiston, but the defence held solid with substitute goalkeeper Themba Tshabalala making a series of fine saves to keep Germiston in the game.

With the rain still pouring down, Germiston beat the Sporting off-side trap and Chokoe scored his second goal of the match.

The team held out for the last 10 minutes, with Tshabalala being called upon to make some fine saves.

The game ended at 2-2.

The reserve team played some really attractive football for the first half and were unlucky not to go into the break ahead, but 1-3 down.

Germiston carried on regardless, but the rewards came five minutes from the end, when they scored two goals to bring the score level.

With less than a minute of added time left, the Germiston defence were caught on the attack, leaving goalkeeper Brian Kamanga on his own with the Sporting striker, who scored, leaving Germiston reeling to a second defeat in the league.
