Sporting highlights for September and October 2015

A quick look at some of 2015’s sporting thrills.

Here are some of the sports accolades scooped in September and October 2015.

September:

  • Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy members scooped 73 medals at the NMA-ISKA’s Northern Classic Championships, in Alberton.
  • Nikita Coetzer, a pupil at the Colin Mann Primary School, was selected as part of the Eastern Gauteng team. The team took part in the Small Districts Inter Provincial Gala, at the Boksburg North Swimming Pool. Coetzer placed third in the 50m freestyle, and was part of the u-10 relay team that received a gold medal at the gala. The youngsters also received a gold medal for the 50m breaststroke event. Her time of 41.84 seconds broke the previous record of 42.28 seconds, held since 2011.
  • Three karatekas from Nippon Dojo Shotokan Karate Club took part in the FSKA World Championships held at the Walter Sisulu Hall, in Randburg. The members received seven medals.

October:

  • Primrose’s Tenshinkan Karate Club members were thrilled to be on the winning team at the Samurai Championships.
  • Primrose’s Liverpool Football Club Johannesburg’s u-13 team won the Eastern’s Cup Final at the Primrose Sports Club.
  • The Mark Strydom SA JKA Karate Club’s instructor, sensei Mark Strydom, was awarded his sixth Dan when he graded.
