St Benedict’s Grade Four boys donate football kit to Primrose soccer team

Their collective efforts resulted in four boxes of football equipment being handed over to the grateful team.

St Benedict’s Grade Four boys have shown that small acts of kindness can make a big difference after rallying together to support a disadvantaged soccer team from Primrose’s informal settlement.

Guided by this year’s theme, ‘My Brother’s Keeper’, the boys, aged 10 and under, put the values of compassion, generosity and community spirit into practice by collecting soccer boots, kit and other football equipment for the Burning Stars soccer team.

The initiative saw all four Grade Four classes join hands, searching their homes for soccer gear they no longer needed and asking their parents to help gather donations. Their collective efforts resulted in four boxes of football equipment being handed over to the grateful team.

Coach Kila and the Burning Stars players welcomed the donations with appreciation, as the contribution will help provide the young footballers with equipment to support their participation in the sport. “The initiative demonstrated how children can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others by sharing what they have and recognising the needs of their community,” said Trevor the coach.

The boys’ generosity was also celebrated at Rossa with a well-deserved pizza treat, thanks to Rossa in Bedfordview. The gesture brought a fitting close to an initiative that went beyond collecting sports equipment, teaching the young learners the importance of looking out for others and using what they have to uplift those around them.

Through the ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ theme, St Benedict’s Grade Four boys have shown that being a brother to someone means more than words – it means taking action, extending a helping hand and making a difference where it matters most.

The school also extended its heartfelt thanks to the boys, their parents and teachers for helping turn the message of kindness into a practical act of giving back to the community.
