Metro promotes sport for children

Entries for the Ekurhuleni Kiddies Games 2016 are now open

The metro is calling on all pre-schools in Ekurhuleni to submit entries to participate in this year’s instalment of the Ekurhuleni Kiddies Games.

The games are aimed at boosting children’s gross motor development and building confidence in their athletic abilities before they are introduced to formal sport in school.

“As the metro, we also want to instil the love of sport and promote the importance of healthy living in children at a young age,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

Each pre-school is required to register a team of 10 participants, consisting of five girls and five boys between the ages of four and six years old.

All registered pre-schools will be given the opportunity to participate at the first level of the competition, the area games, which will be held in March, in the Eastern, Northern and Southern regions of the metro.

Activities include ball throwing, ball hopping, ring throwing, ball kicking, ball dribbling, cycling and balancing.

This year’s Ekurhuleni Kiddies Games will be held on May 6, at the Makhulong Stadium, in Tembisa.

Interested pre-schools can submit their teams’ applications by registering through the area coordinators, on or before February 29:
