Eagles win two out of three games

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club celebrated another successful weekend by winning two of their three Easterns Cricket League matches.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club had another successful weekend, winning two of their three weekend matches in the Easterns Cricket League.

The club’s three matches were played away, with the first being played against the Daveyton Cricket Club at Willowmoore Park on Saturday afternoon.

Elsburg won the toss in the first league match and elected to bat first, setting a total of 247 runs in their 35 overs, with Garreth Hann making 81 of the day’s runs and Frans Louw contributing 69 runs.

The pair had an unbeaten partnership of 150 runs.

The team then took to the field and bowled Daveyton out for only 80 runs.

Garreth Hann took five of the match’s wickets for only 31 runs and Schalk Groenewald took four wickets for only 24 runs.

This meant Elsburg won by 167 runs and earned a bonus point for their efforts.

The man of the match was awarded to Garreth Hann for his skill with the bat and on the field.

Sunday saw Elsburg take part in the Promotion League against Avion Cricket Club.

Once again Elsburg batted first and only managed to make 123 runs all out, in their allotted 50 overs.

The top runs came off Schalk Groenewald’s bat with 43 and Garreth Hann who made 30.

The club took to the field and despite their best efforts, Avion was able to clinch a victory with 124 runs and two wickets in hand.

Garreth Hann was named man of the match again after he claimed five wickets for only 27 runs.

“It was a hard and difficult battle between the two clubs and we are proud of the boys for the commitment they have shown,” said Martiens Grobler.

Sunday also saw Elsburg’s second side competing in the Presidents League against Champions Cricket Club.

They fielded first, holding Champions to 186 runs all out in 40 overs.

It was then Elsburg’s turn to bat, with the club winning the match by two runs with seven wickets in hand, in only 27 overs.

Top batsman Kobus Black, who was awarded man of the match, made a century, with Grobler adding 54 runs to the score board.

The team was awarded a bonus point for their win.

“This was the first game of the year for this team and we are proud of them,” said Grobler.

The team will next face the Midrand Cricket Club in a home match at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie, in the first league on Saturday.

In addition, the team will face Kwa-Thema Cricket Club in the Promotion League on Sunday at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie.
