Camaraderie was the order of the day as all those present dressed in white as per the theme of the prestigious prize-giving ceremony.
Katlehong’s Shorin Kempo Kaikan Karate Club concluded the year’s events with a glamorous prize-giving ceremony in Katlehong, on Wednesday.
The event was aimed at shining a light on all the club’s achievements throughout the year.
Best male and female fighter, most disciplined and best kata were among the awards presented at the event.
“We thank everyone for all their support which has led to the year’s successes,” said the club’s head coach, Thulane Sibisi.
“We are going all the way up from here, taking karate to the next level.
“This has been one of the best years for our club, we achieved a lot and not only through medals and trophies but in capacity as well.
“The club has grown tremendously.”
The ceremony was also attended by karatekas from as far as Zimbabwe to show their support and help celebrate the local club’s members.
Sibisi also thanked the GCN.
“We thank the GCN for the coverage throughout the year, it is greatly appreciated,” he said.
“Another thank you goes to the community for their continued support; it has been a great year.”
The club has closed for the year and will re-open in the second week of January, next year.
