Ashes to Ashes FC claims top spot in tournament
Thokoza Football Association held an Easter soccer tournament at Extension Two Sports Ground in Thokoza recently.
The tournament, in which 30 teams from the Kathorus area participated, started on Friday, April 14, and ended on Monday, April 17.
Thokozani Rozani, the owner and coach of the winning team, Ashes to Ashes FC, said the purpose of the tournament was to keep young people away from drugs.
“Young people are bored because of the scarcity of job opportunities. That is why they end up taking drugs. We felt a need to keep them busy,” said Rozani.
He said there is no difference between drugs and other killer diseases.
Ashes to Ashes FC participated in the first semi-finals and defeated Green Stars FC by 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 tie.
Royals FC participated in the second semi-finals and were defeated by Ayifuni Wena FC by 1-0.
Ashes to Ashes FC beat Ayifuni Wena FC 2-0 in the finals and took home the first prize of R30 000 and soccer kits.
Ayifuni Wena FC took home the second prize of R10 000.
Ashes to Ashes FC also participated in the Freedom Day Soccer Tournament that took place on Thursday, April 27.
Rozani said they lost on the finals.
“We were defeated by Snack is a Snack FC from Thokoza by three goals to nil,” said Rozani.
