Katlehong Athletics Club to honour Masiteng
Katlehong Athletics Club will host a 10km memorial run for Samuel Masiteng on Sunday, August 13.
The marathon will begin at 7am at Katlehong Huntersfield Stadium, in Katlehong.
Hloni Motloung, the race organiser, said Masiteng was the greatest runner Katlehong ever produced.
“Masiteng died on August 9, 2016. He did his first Comrades – an up run – in the year 2000, finishing in a time of 8 hours and 20 minutes. He completed a total of five Comrades Marathons between the year 2000 and 2016. His best time was 8 hours and 14 minutes, which he achieved in 2008, another up run,” said Motloung.
Masiteng’s Comrades record included three Bill Rowan medals and two bronze medals.
Motloung said runners are encouraged to wear their club colours on the day.
“A R20 non-compulsory fee will be charged for water, ice and Coke,” concludes Motloung.
