Germiston celebrate victory in Super League fixture
Germiston City Football Club hosted Randburg Football Club in their weekend Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League fixture.
After a few close games in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League, which included a 1-2 loss to Luso Africa FC and a 3-3 draw to Benoni Northerns Football Club, the Germiston City Football Club was determined to make their mark in their fixture against Randburg Football Club.
The teams clashed at the Germiston City Sports Club, on Saturday, and despite not winning a match against the visitors in four seasons, the home team looked strong heading into the match.
The game started at a good tempo with both sides testing the others’ defences, but it was Randburg who opened the scoring, within the first 10 minutes by sneaking the ball past Germiston’s defence and goalkeeper.
However, the home team didn’t let this get them down and kept applying pressure on the Randburg defence by looking for a gap.
Their efforts were soon rewarded when Angelo Kaseem got the ball past the Randburg defence to teammate Tendai Rufai, who was able to shoot and score.
“The Randburg goalkeeper had no chance to defend as the ball flew into the back of the net,” said Peter Oliver, the club chairperson.
Despite attempts from both sides to score a second goal, the score was tied at 1-1 when they headed into half-time.
During the break, Germiston’s coach Sreten Pavlovic made a few adjustments to the defence with Scotty Chando coming in for an injured Comfort Molabela, which served to strengthen the centre of defence.
The home team dominated the opening part of the second half and 15 minutes in, they were rewarded with a goal by Thabiso Nkosi.

This was the last goal of the match as the rattled Randburg were unable to find the back of the net again.
The match ended in a 2-1 victory for Germiston.
Pavlovic was very pleased with the win especially after the team’s earlier games where he felt Germiston should have come out on top.
This win leaves Germiston seventh in the log standings.
