Don’t miss the National Yearling Sale

t’s almost time for the cream of the crop in yearlings to go under the hammer.

Once again, the National Yearling Sale, which takes place at the TBA complex in Gosforth Park from April 24 to 26, will be offering buyers the chance to buy some of South Africa’s best-bred yearlings, from some of South Africa’s best breeders.

A total of 565 blue-blooded yearlings have been handpicked for this year’s auction, which promises to be a sale for the ages.

As in 2018, the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale has been separated into a first and second session.

Held at the Germiston complex for the first time in 1977, the National Yearling Sale’s honour roll includes some of the finest thoroughbreds ever produced in South Africa.

Past graduates of this sale include horse of the year and subsequent outstanding stallion Dynasty and fellow horse of the year-winning champions Futura, Legislate and Legal Eagle, as well as Equus champion Do It Again, whose wins include the 2018 G1 Vodacom Durban July and 2019 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

South Africa’s top sires of recent times are all set to be represented at this year’s sale, with the likes of Captain Al, Dynasty, Gimmethegreenlight, Querari, Silvano, Trippi, and Var all handsomely represented at the 2019 National Yearling Sale.

Exciting stallions with yearlings on offer for the first time at a National Yearling Sale this year, include Dynasty’s Cape Guineas winner Act Of War, Tapit’s brilliant son Coup De Grace, Galileo’s blue-blooded son Flying The Flag, Dynasty’s horse of the year sons Futura and Legislate, Dubawi’s SA Nursery winner Willow Magic and Galileo’s multiple graded stakes winner Global View.

The latter has already proved a crowd pleaser, with Global View’s first yearlings having already made up to R1 300 000.

The sale will also have an international flavour this year, with the sale offering buyers the chance to acquire stock by such stallions as unbeaten legend Frankel, multiple classic winner and hot young sire Camelot, champion Rock Of Gibraltar – sire of more than 100 stakes winners, and multiple Australian G1 winner Press Statement.
