Help Primrose soccer team reclaim its former glory

Luso Africa wants to offer a place where the community can come together to support the children in what they love.

Luso Africa Football Club is rebuilding to reclaim its former glory with plans to reach even greater heights.

The club invites the community and local businesses to help them achieve their goal.

The club has been in Primrose for over 23 years, and like most, Luso was hit hard by Covid-19.

Miquel da Silva said even during lockdown, the club looked after the players in need.

“Most of our players come from disadvantaged areas, so when Covid-19 struck, we looked after each other like family,” said Da Silva.

The facilities have received a new lease on life with beautiful soccer fields.

Da Silva said they wanted a space where the players could value the game and enjoy training in proper facilities.

“We are not where we want to be as Luso, but believe in what we are doing at the club – unearthing talent and nurturing it,” said Da Silva.

Luso boasts soccer, Scouts and cycling.

The club has 17 soccer teams, from U7 to veterans, and women’s teams. The club competes in the Eastern Local Football Association, and the teams have performed well.

“We took some silverware home last year. Even the women’s teams are doing very well,” said Da Silva.

He said financial support is a challenge.

“We can’t afford gear and training equipment. Most of our players come from Makause informal settlement and are committed to the team because they don’t miss practice and are talented.

“We try to get our players scouted or referred to PSL teams. We have professional coaches, who have played in the league and are willing to share their knowledge with our players,” said Da Silva.

The Luso teams need soccer kits, boots and transportation to games.

The club is busy with trials. Anyone interested in attending may call Da Silva on 082 826 9864.
